For a never-to-be forgotten Spanish holiday

Rural self-catering country villa to rent on an old almond and olive farm. A delightful Spanish holiday (vacation) accommodation, near Álora and Cártama, inland from Malaga, Andalusia, Southern Spain. Sleeps 2 - 4 + child, 2 en-suite bedrooms, with a private pool and outdoor hot tub/spa/Jacuzzi. Whilst enjoying privacy and seclusion, remote from civilisation, you are not isolated at all: a 20 minute drive brings you to the local town, 45 minutes to the Costa del Sol and all its attractions and less than an hour to Malaga Airport. Perfect for walking, rock climbing, painting, photographers, honeymooners, romantic couples, yoga, rambling, bird watching and those wanting to just relax.

Look here for what our guests say about their holiday here!

We have really enjoyed all that La Cencerrita has to offer - particularly the wonderful peace and quiet.  To have the opportunity to do absolutely nothing except laze, read, eat and sleep is just what we needed.

Fabulous scenery and a great pool/BBQ area - not to mention the spa!

It has been great.  The house is very well equipped with everything needed for a quiet mountain getaway - fab!  Thank you.

Our fourth visit has drawn to an end far too quickly again. Why do wonderful experiences always end too soon?  We have once again had the most wonderful week together, relaxing and enjoying the marvellous views.

It is just wonderful to enjoy breakfast on the roof terrace, and the memory will keep us going through the winter months ahead. Thanks for your lovely company again and the great meal you made for us on our first evening. We really enjoyed the BBQ - it was lovely to see Ian and Wendy again.

Must dash to catch the last dip in the spa - which is absolutely brilliant!

Thank you so much for a more than lovely stay at "La Cencerrita". Our Spanish friends told us that this is the world for a bell that cows carry around their neck.  For us it describes an unbelievable place in the South of Spain.  Some words to describe it: Silence / Sunshine / Sunsets / Mountain Views / "Dancing Roads" / Hot Tub / Stars and Moon / Sevilla / Álora / Tapas / Fantasy / Flamenco / Granada etc etc.  This place is romantic and it has MAGIC.  Alan and Colleen know how to create a fabulous atmosphere within / near / a bit further away from the house. Thanks!  We literally had tears in our eyes yesterday evening knowing we had to leave today.  We hope to be back one day to live our dream again. Matthijs and Hanneke

Have loved being here - the isolation is magic.

Have watched the browns change to greens after the storm of last week when staying at Casita Maria.  After another storm last night, the greening will no doubt continue!  Let's hope Alan's work on the track hasn't been washed away!  We've enjoyed the space here and all the facilities.  Just time for one more dip in the spa before we leave ...

Another wonderful week chilling out up in the mountains.

Managed to tear ourselves away from the spa and cava long enough to venture out on one of the walks and also a day trip to Malaga on the train.

Once again we brought the British weather with us with a fantastic overnight storm and huge hailstones in the morning.

Now we're leaving the sun is glorious again and we're sad to be on our way out of out little bubble and back to reality.

We have seen a lot of places but nothing was like this. La Cencerrita is a great place in a lovely environment, very quiet and peaceful.  We loved the views and wildlife and of course the company of Arwen too.

Thanks for your great hospitality!  We have never experienced everything being so well taken care of. So a big compliment for the both of you!!!

We are sad to have to head home and back to normal life.  Thanks!!!

Sadly we're leaving tomorrow :( We would've easily stayed here for another week ... at least!  We're really enjoyed our stay here. It was nice just to relax in the sun or in the pool and get away from our busy lives at home.  Thank you for everything and hopefully we'll meet again. Allison and Rasmus

We've had a fabulous honeymoon at your lovely retreat, and that's despite a teething 14 months old!!  It really is a beautiful location and the views are just spectacular, another week or so would be great but back to reality I guess .. Didn't do much else but relax at the villa - a day out to Ronda, a meal at El Tintero, a visit to El Chorro all lovely.  Thanks for providing such a wonderful haven. Jacqui, Andrew and Ava

When you first arrive, nothing prepares you for the views from the roof terrace - we have not tired of staring at the hills and watching the goats!  Equally at night, the stars are amazing.

Enjoyed just relaxing, swimming, reading and spending time in the spa - all the things we don't normally get time for.

Recommend quad trekking - we went with Quadlandertreks in Álora. Susan provided brilliant training and really looked after us.  It's a great way to see the local countryside.  Jordan and Sam had a great time as passengers. Antequera is worth a visit and the lakes at Ardales make for a good day out - remember picnic and swimming gear.  The pedalos are also worth hiring at the lake. We completed Walks 1 and 2, but did not manage walk 3 (maybe next time!)

Now for the soppy bit - Arwen - we all fell in love with her and will miss her daily visits.  Thank you to Alan and Colleen for creating a very special place - so well thought out with everything you could possible want.  It's been lovely to escape "normal" life.

Just enjoyed our 2nd visit here, every bit as good as the 1st. Lovely just to chill and not spend too much, just relaxing and enjoying the wonderful views and the tranquillity of La Cencerrita.

Enjoyed trips to El Torcal and Gibraltar, seeing the monkeys was ape - I mean great!

Alan and Colleen brill as always, the perfect hosts and friends. We couldn't leave without mentioning the gorgeous silky eared hound Arwen, who is the perfect alarm clock.

Robin enjoyed a lazy day and a lovely evening out for his 50th, he certainly had his cake and ate it.

We shall certainly return to our Shangri La, I mean La Cencerrita!!

Again a big thank you to Alan and Colleen and Arwen.

As a second time Cencerritaist I cannot believe how fast two weeks can pass in this heavenly place.  This year was every bit as magnificent as last, even though solo this time. Perfect weather, perfect scenery, perfect hosts - even if you did gang up on me at Trivial Pursuits .... TWICE!!!

I must now return to the land of warm beer, Z-list, so called celebrities, hoodies, lousy weather, miserable people, a miserable government, clinically depressing soap operas, and a place where "service" is a dirty word.

THE NEXT 8400 HOURS (appx) CANNOT PASS QUICKLY ENOUGH!  Love to you both and woof to Arwen

Ps Added hours later: Thank you for fun and surprise last evening! The Arwen video came out great!

Yes it was great to be back at Finca Cencerrita, to unwind & relax.

It’s already the 4th visit for me, but I never get tired of seeing those beautiful Spanish hills & soaking up the sun & surrounding peace far from the madding crowds.

This time my daughter brought along her Austrian boyfriend.  They were in the Jacuzzi late most evenings followed by a quick dip in the pool to cool off, apparently very good for the circulation! Tania’s boyfriend loved the area, he said oh yes I will be back and will give the address to friends & family in Austria.

We brought lots of fresh fish from the local supermarkets, superb & excellent prices (Fresh salmon at 8 euros a Kilo. Giant prawns at 6.50 euros a kilo). Also a few good barbecues by the pool.

We made a trip to El Chorro & the lakes, taking a new way. A little longer but really beautiful if you are not in a rush. Instead of going into Álora town take the road towards Antequera the A 343 . follow his road until you reach the small town of Valle de Abdalajis & turn left at the sign for El Chorro. Can’t miss it as it’s also marked on the high stone wall this road takes you up & over down to the El Chorro reservoir.

After the visit to El Chorro take the road direction Guadalhorce lakes. Follow until you reach a large junction take the right turn. Rapidly you will see the beautiful unspoilt blue lake on your left. The road follows close to the lake. There are lots of places to go down to the edge, several beaches. It was great & warm to swim in the lake even in the first week of June. We also hired a canoe to go out on the lake, there are also pédalos to rent, We ate a late lunch at the  restaurant  which  has a big shaded terrace looking down to the lake. Do try the tropical salad, the big plates of Spanish ham or cheese.

This area is also well known for its mountain bike trails. Yes we will all be back in the near future.

Just a big thank you for yet again a lovely holiday.  This was our third visit and each time we have had the most wonderful, relaxing, stress free holiday.  The villa is wonderful, the mountains and surrounding are superb, with the most wonderful way to end the day in the got tub watching the moon and the stars.  This time we have also had the pleasure of bringing mum and dad with us to share this wonderful experience.

Thanks for the great barbecue on Wednesday we shared with yourselves and Ian and Wendy and this time the weather was kind to us!

Bye bye and thanks to Arwen whom we all love and will miss terribly - I wish we could pack her in the case and take her home, but she would be so missed by all who have grown to love her.  We can not wait until October when we will see you all again.

It's been great to be back - in spite of the work we had to do, we still found time for books and Jigsaws (The new board really helped!)

Don't think we'll ever tire of the scenery - or the hot tub - the perfect end to a perfect day. We'll be back - don't go away!

What a wonderful place - just wish we'd had 2 weeks instead of one.

Really enjoyed the views and local walks - beautiful flowers and birds including bee eaters, which were stunning. A trip to El Chorro was well worth the drive and the guided tour at the Lobo Park, visiting the wolves, was fantastic.

Each day concluded with a soak in the hot tub and then a few beers and a good film before bedtime.

This is a very special place - thank you very much and who knows ... we may be back.

PS Arwen will probably miss her outings running with Steven and he'll miss her company I'm sure. What a twosome!

What a wonderful peaceful place!

We have visited many of the National Parks and even seen the Flamingos at the Salt lake, there was about a mile to walk though.

We found this place via Goecaching.com and have found 6 caches whilst staying here and none of them were easy!

Some of the wildlife was brill, we have seen many birds inc warblers, 2 species of shrike, lesser kestrels etc.

One of my favourite places was El Torcal just for the geology, an amazing place!

Eating out was an experience and the fish inc sardines was great. Most of time we ate here and brought fresh produce locally and found plenty of herbs around the area.

We will be back!

Thanks to Alan and Colleen for a brill hol.

Dearest Colleen, Alan and Arwen

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home with us, in such a beautiful part of Spain.  No high rise buildings, no noisy tourists and no crowds of people being led by a tour guide with a flag of their country in his hand.  For us, this is an ideal holiday, a real "get away from it all".

Thank you for your hospitality and for a truly unforgettable week

Two blissfully relaxing days spent sunning ourselves with no noisy or rude neighbours, or indeed any neighbours at all - total heaven!

The star of the weekend was of course faithful Arwen, the forever loving and content companions.

Many thanks for a lovely weekend

UK - the rainy variety

What a fantastic way to see in the new year - sitting in a hot tub sipping cava and looking at the stars and fireworks at midnight!  El Chorro seemed a very busy world away - far too many climbers this time of year.  However, we took refuge here and climbing at Desplomlandia by the beautiful lakes. As such I am now an accomplished rally driver. Richard and Robyn
