Guests* Climbing at

El Chorro

"The first part of the Camino del Rey is indeed a bit tricky. After a few bad accidents authorities took down about 50m of the beginning to prevent people from having a walk on the Camino. The old iron beams are still in place. In between somebody installed some metal steps, bolts and a few pieces of rope to get past that first section. Nevertheless one would want to be free of giddiness... Apart from two bigger holes, the rest is quite comfortable. One would definitely need a climbing harness and something to secure himself. We used our climbing harness and a pair of 1.20m slings and quickdraws which is totally fine if you have a bit of climbing experience. A via ferrata set would be perfect.

The easier access to the Camino would be to go around the first gorge (there is a path that leads over the hills, you can find a detailed description in the rock fax guide book) and enter the Camino from the "End". From this side the walkway it is pretty intact and there is no need for climbing. The walkway is secured with steel cables which are in good condition.

I think that there are guided tours on the Camino (see here: Rock Climbing Spain -El Camino del Rey). After the first gorge there is a beautiful valley and at the end of the valley there is a second gorge. We have never been to the second gorge, since the climbing areas are in the valley in between ;-). Nevertheless it is said to be very beautiful but requires some climbing. The valley itself is very enjoyable as is the walk over the hills, even for non climbers ;-) "

*Our guests have asked us not to use their names, but we are very grateful to them for such a great set of climbing photos.

Select the business tab in the top left and just write "Cencerrita" and it takes you right to us! The roads drawn in white on Google earth should be taken "with a pinch of salt"- at least in our area - they are not particularly accurate.  For example, it shows a through road going right across Cencerrita - this, we can assure you, does not exist!!

We also laughed at the route Google gives you from Malaga Airport ... you wouldn't so much need a 4 x 4 as a helicopter! Don't worry though, we provide you with very precise directions ... which work!
